The extension provides a kitchen at entry-level, with an entrance hall and children’s playroom below. The extension is subservient to the main body of the house, a protected structure, and the new rooms within the extension are used to support the activities within the rest of the house.

The extension takes the form of a tube, suspended at first floor on a steel portal and visually separated from the gable of the Georgian house to articulate the new work relative to the existing. A new kitchen is slipped into this space taking advantage of the view to the garden and unobstructed light from the south.
