practising architecture

The intention of this exhibition was to present architecture as a direct experience, for an art audience, rather than describe it using drawings or models. An analysis of the brief and existing space suggested that it was not possible to engage with the installation without engaging with the gallery as a whole.

Study models showed that the parallel walls, which framed the display area, disrupted the ‘familiar’ perspective of the gallery and made the viewer reassess what they see.  Rather than impose another element into the discourse, this condition was developed and elaborated upon.
